THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The public auction of the vehicles that were in the possession of Sabarinath, the prime accused in the Total 4U case, which began on Monday faced a set back as there were no takers for the vehicles at the value fixed by the government.

The auctioning of the seven vehicles began at the office of the official receiver A.P.Ajayan. The 2008 model Skoda car and 2008 model Honda CRV were scheduled to be auctioned on Monday. However, auctioning of the Skoda was postponed owing to technical problems with the vehicle.

As many as 11 persons turned up for the auction. But none of the participants took part.

Subsequently, the lone sealed quotation submitted was opened, in which only Rs 4.4 lakh was quoted for the vehicle. The price fixed by the government for the vehicle was Rs 15 lakh.

Sources said that the official receiver would be reporting the matter to the court and subsequently the government would refix the value of the vehicle and further auction would be held later.

The auction of five other cars would be held in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Thiruvananthapuram sub-court II has rejected a petition filed by Sabarinath and his father Rajan seeking a stay on the auction.

Advocate Mudakal G.S.Satheesan Nair and Madhavan Kutty represented the depositors at the court.
