THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finally, the police claim to have traced the creator of the controversial email that has embarrassed CPM State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
Renny Mathew, 36, of Palakunnil House at Perumpetty in Pathanamthitta, had created the email containing the pictures of a palatial house claimed to be that of Pinarayi Vijayan, according to sources at the State Cyber Police station, which is investigating the case.
Renny, who is working in a consultancy firm in Quatar, was contacted by the police over email and he had admitted that he had created the mail. However, he claimed that he had no intention to defame Pinarayai Vijayan.
The police sources said that Renny was traced with the information provided by another NRI Dinesh Nair who had forwarded the mail to Manoj of Bharanikavu, who was arrested in connection with the case.
The picture of the house seen in the email was taken by one Roy Mampallil, a BSNL employee. Roy, who had connections in the film industry, had taken the picture of the house using his mobile phone camera when he visited the house of Pranosh at Kunnamkulam on October 31.
He posted the picture on his Orkut profile. Renny, who took the picture from the Orkut, had labeled it as Pinarayi Vijayan’s house and forwarded it to four of his friends, including one Saji Ninan of Angola on November 10. Dinesh Nair received the mail from Saji.
The police are yet to trace the sources from which Karthik, another youth arrested in connection with the case, received the mail. Though he said that he had received the mail from one Dhanya, the person could not be traced yet.
It is reliably learnt that Karthik had not added any comments to the email. The police arrested him as he did not respond to a notice sent by the police to his email address. Karthik told the police that he had not noticed the mail as it might have landed among Spam Mails.
The police will submit a report at the Vanchiyoor court here about the tracing of the creator of the email and subsequent steps to arrest the accused will be taken.
A team of the Cyber Police Station comprising DySP Sukumara Pillai, circle-inspectors Bijumon, Ajith Mohan and Vinayakumaran Nair is investigating the case under the supervision of IG Tomin Thachankary.
