THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor R.S.Gavai on Friday urged the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to undertake ``constructive schemes with a broader vision,’’ and said that the NCC should be developed as a ``second-line defence’’ to be mobilised in times of national emergency and disasters.
He was inaugurating a symposium on NCC organised by the Directorate of NCC (Kerala and Lakshadweep) at the Kanakakkunnu Palace here.
``A second-line defence could be created using this youth power and kept as reserve force at times of national emergency and natural disasters,’’ he said.
In an atmosphere when vast changes are occurring in the country, an organisation such as the NCC should cultivate good citizenship, promote culture heritage and ensure empowerment of youth. They should undertake schemes with a broader vision, he said.
The Governor also released a journal on the symposium.
The Governor’s wife Kamaltai Gavai, Food and Civil Supplies Minister C.Divakaran, DGP Jacob Punnoose, Deputy Director General, NCC (Kerala and Lakshadweep) Brigadier T.K.Murali and Group Commander, Thiruvananthapuram, Colonel M.Indrabalan were present.
The symposium will conclude on Saturday.
