THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leaders of various political parties and the Church condoled the passing away of Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil, on Monday.
Major Archbishop Baselios Cleemis Catholicos of the Malankara Catholic Church said in his condolence message that the death of Acharuparambil was a heavy loss to society and the church. Acharuparambil had always taken a pro-poor stand. ``His matured and balanced approach to social issues and his special attachment to the Indian culture stood out’’ he said. Acharuparambil always had respect towards other religions. ``We remember his love and respect for the Malankara Church with gratitude,’’ he said.
In his condolence message, Archbishop M. Soosai Pakiam of Latin Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram said that Archbishop Acharuparambil was a close friend, colleague and guide. ``His demise is an irreparable loss and the vacuum created cannot be filled,’’ he said.
Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy said in his condolence message that Acharuparambil was a scholar who stood with the poor.
CPM state committee condoled the death of Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil. CPM state secretary Pinaryi Vijayan in his condolence message said that Acharuparambil was a spiritual leader who had always tried to strengthen secular values in Kerala society. ``He was always cordial to communist ideals and Leftist movements,’’ he said.
BJP state president P.K. Krishnadas said in his condolence message that Acharuparambil was interested in the welfare of not only Catholics but other communities as well.
Acharuparambil was a great spiritual leader who commanded the respect of members of other communities, Krishnadas said.
Opposition deputy leader G.Karthikeyan, DCC president V.S. Sivakumar and K. Muraleedharan ex-MP condoled the death of Archbishop Acharuparambil.
