THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Kaumudi editor M S Mani has been selected for the Swadeshabhimani Award for this year, instituted by the Swadeshabhimani Smaraka Samiti. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation and a statuette, made by artist Bhattathiri.
Madhyamam daily’s Kochi Bureau chief C A M Karim has been selected for the Journalism Award for his investigative series on environmental pollution published in the daily from August 20 to 23. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 10,000, citation and a memento.
P R Devadas, photographer of the Malayala Manorama daily, Thiruvananthapuram unit, was selected for the photography award. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000, citation and a memento. Anil Nambiar of the Soorya TV won the visual media award comprising a cash prize of Rs 10,000, citation and memento.
The Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Gold Medal will be presented to the first rank holder in the 2008-09 batch of the Institute of Journalism, Press Club, Thiruvananthapuram.
The awards were announced by Opposition leader and president of the Samithi Oommen Chandy, vice-president of samiti M M Hassan, general secretary Thampanoor Ravi and treasurer M R Thampan here on Tuesday.
They said the awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held at the premises of Kerala Kaumudi daily on November 2 at 10 a.m. Defence Minister A K Antony will present the award.
