THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an innovative attempt, all the theses of outgoing postgraduate students of the College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET), will be presented in poster format on the college premises on Wednesday.

The programme is an initiative of the College for Engineering Research and Development (CERD). In the programme that would be held throughout the day from 9.30 am to 4 pm, posters of 147 theses of M Tech and M Planning students will be exhibited at the Indoor Stadium of the College.

The presentation is envisaged as an academic process which provides the discourse of research in an informal framework, so as to enable interaction and feedback from experts in academic field as well as industry.

CERD Director B Anil told Expresso that the theses would later become part of the K-Base depository of the Technical Education Department of the State Government.

The state-of-the-art presentation would act as an inspiration for  undergraduate and postgraduate students in future, he said. Besides, it would be useful to faculty members of other engineering colleges as they can have a firsthand information on state-of-the-art technologies. The presentation also aims at introducing the academic activities taken up at the CET to industries and institutions like VSSC, he said.

Earlier, such academic activities remained unnoticed once the students completed their courses, Anil said.

One of the advantages of the presentation is that the students who are associated with the theses would be present at the venue itself, as the programme is as an interactive one, he said.

CERD had been established by the State Government on the CET campus to act as a platform for faculty and students of engineering colleges in the State to pursue their interest in basic and applied research in engineering and technology.

The main objectives of the centre are, providing research facilities and access to information sources; conducting training, seminar, symposia and lecture series in emerging areas; providing mentoring to researchers in the various engineering colleges; establishing academic-industrial interaction and bridging the gap between them to meet the fast-growing Research and Development needs of industry; identifying potential researchers and providing seed money to obtain research funding; organising the Kerala State Technological Congress; providing consultancy services through satellite congress and publishing periodicals, bulletins  and journals on engineering research.

G S Bhuvaneshwar, Head of Biomedical Technology of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, will inaugurate the programme at CETAA Hall, CET, at 9.30 am on the day. Technical Education Director Kuncheria P Isaac will preside over the function.

CET Principal J Letha, CERD Director Anil, PG Studies Dean G L Valsala, UG Studies Dean R Sathikumar and Coordinator of Electronics and Communication Department Vrinda V Nair will be present.
