THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Centre for Development of Music Studies (CDMS) here, which has been carrying out innovations in international music education, is launching a new programme - CADENZA - which will begin on Vijayadasami day, October 17.

CADENZA will be held every month on the CDMS campus. National and International musicians will take part in the interactive sessions as part of the programme. They will also conduct classes on techniques and performance. Students will present their compositions demonstrating varied talent.

CADENZA, the latest introduction of CDMS in the performance module, has been developed by the CDMS team. ‘’The main purpose of this programme is to set free a growing musician from the clutches of routine lessons and bringing him/ her to the idea of exploring inborn talents,” says Abraham Sam George, one of the two directors of CDMS, who is also the representative of Trinity College. Every music student at CDMS will be a part of TEAM CADENZA. CADENZA will also associate its programmes with Crossroad Café, New Delhi, and similar organisations.

CDMS is also launching a new module of music examination and teaching different from the existing traditional methods. Currently CDMS is the biggest examination centre for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), London, Kerala. Chief Instructor of CDMS Thomas Varghese is also the representative of the British Examination Board.

“The 2011 syllabus of the Royal School Examinations is designed to meet the busy schedule of each student around the globe and every department at CDMS has reviewed and finalised its curriculum to meet the latest syllabus of ABRSM exams.”

In April this year, CDMS was chosen for a 40-day music training programme of Trinity College, London, to prepare students for Trinity exams, which were held in June. It was a first-of-its-kind programme in India.
