

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: “This is an odd situation. At this age I am here to remember C Bhaskaran when the reverse should have happened,” said veteran Marxist ideologue P GovindaPillai in highly emotional tones during the condolence meeting of C Bhaskaran, the first national president of Students Federation of India (SFI) who passed away in Chennai recently.
In front of a thickly packed crowd at V J T Hall, the veteran communist leader added: “It does not give me any sense of joy to be here remembering such a great man like Bhaskaran. When I would die, he ought to have organised a remembrance meeting and shared his memories about me. But this is how it was fated to happen and here I am, sitting at the condolence meeting of
C.Bhaskaran’’.
CPI (M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan called C Bhaskaran a pure human being who could identify so closely with the suffering men.
“He came from a family of weavers. He grew up amid poor circumstances. Later, Bhaskaran turned out to be an earnest humanbeing who could love his fellow beings like his brothers,’’ he said.
C K Chandrappan, CPI state secretary, said that C Bhaskaran was one of the few men who continued a good relation with him even after the split of the party.
KPCC vice-president Thalekunnil Basheer who was also present recollected the days he spent as college student with C Bhaskaran at the Law college.
“He was the one who proved that making noise does not distinguish a politician. He exemplified that a real politician will make noise that will have depth and meaning,’’ he said. Ministers M A Baby, Thomas Issac, M Vijayakumar, V Surendran Pillai were also present on the occasion.
