THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Anxiety and excitement were at the maximum at the Paico showroom along Press Road, Pulimood, on Saturday evening. The showroom witnessed some anxious moments and nail-biting finishes as it got drenched in the cheers and screams of joy of children who turned up in large numbers for the Beyblade and Jenga competitions.
Over 65 children battled it out with the toy in two categories, under-10 and above-11, to win the prizes given away by Funskool. The competition organised by Paico in association with Funskool, which introduced the Beyblade in the Indian market, saw enthusiastic Beyblade-crazy children ‘armed’ with their toys queuing up to try their skill in making the toy spin for the maximum time inside the ‘stadium’. The participant whose toy stopped first had to bow out of the game.
It was a matter of pride for most contestants and most of them had their parents to give them company and encouragement. While there were contestants like Anand Shankar who had just a liking for the game and were there to try their luck, we met children like Adarsh Shanawaz, his classmate of Class V at Christ Nagar School, who admitted with a chuckle, “Yes, I am crazy about this.”
Jenga, the other competition at the venue, had fewer contestants when compared to the Beyblade contest. “Jenga fans are less compared to Beyblade enthusiasts,” said a spokesperson of Funskool.
According to Ajay Pai, partner of Paico, another competition will be arranged during the school vacation.
