THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 22nd convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will be held in the capital on Saturday. The zonal convocation will be held here simultaneously with the national-level convocation organised at the IGNOU headquarters in New Delhi.

 Human Resources Minister Kapil Sibal will be the Chief Guest at the main convocation in Delhi.

 In the regional convocation to be held at  Hotel Classic Avenuehere at 10 am, Jnanpith award winner O N V Kurup will be the guest of honour. He would distribute the IGNOU degrees to students who completed various courses.

IGNOU Zonal Director B Sukumar will preside over the function.

 The videos of the convocation in Delhi would be screened before the convocation here. During the zonal convocation, degrees will be handed over to 388 students. Of them,179 are in management, 60 in computer science,127 graduate degrees in other disciplines, 15 post graduate degrees and seven post graduate diplomas. A prize will be presented to Harish Kumar, who won gold medal in the post graduate diploma in adult education.

 The zonal centre here caters to students of the study centres and 43 learner support centres and programme study centres in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts in Kerala and Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu. This is the second regional centre in the State. The first regional centre functions at Kochi.
