THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 30-day Gandhi Utsav currently going on at Gandhi Bhavan, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, will conclude on January 10. The event, being held in connection with the 60th anniversary of Kerala Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, will have its valedictory function from 9.30 am on that day.

K Sankaranarayanan, Governor of Maharashtra, who will be the chief guest, will deliver the valedictory address. P Gopinathan Nair, chairman of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, will preside over the function, which will be attended by NABARD chief general manager K C Sasidhar and Noorul Islam University pro-Vice Chancellor Faisal Khan. This will be followed by Balasangamam, which will be inaugurated by poet Sugathakumari. Swami Aswathi Thirunal will be the chief guest of the event. The exhibition of Khadi and village products and the one on Gandhian literature too will conclude on the same day.

A workshop attended by the representatives of various organisations pursuing Gandhian philosophy was held in connection with the festival. The national secretary of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Ramachandra Rahi inaugurated the workshop. He called upon Gandhian followers to strengthen their fight against complex issues plaguing the society like corruption, bribery, alcoholic consumption and terrorism.

Madurai Gandhigram Museum secretary Prof Rangappa, Smarak Nidhi secretary V Ramdas and former Minister V C Kabeer were among those who spoke at the workshop.
