The Kerala State Electricity Board will open the State’s first indoor electrical sub-station at Karamana here on Thursday.
Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed will inaugurate the sub-station at 4 pm at Reddiar Hall, Melarannoor, at a function presided over by Health Minister V S Sivakumar. The 33 KV sub-station is situated next to the electrical section office at Arannoor ward, and is answer to the acute space crunch faced by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).
More than 30,000 consumers will benefit from the new sub-station, KSEB officials said. The sub-station is being opened to address the issues of voltage problems, transmission loss and the increasing demand for electricity in Valiyasala, Karamana, Kalady, Chalai, Manacaud, Kuriathy, Nedungad, Poojappura, Jagathy and Arannur. These places are now served by 11 KV feeders of Killipalam, Karamana South and Kuriathy from the 110 KV sub-station at Thirumala.
Electricity will be routed to the new sub-station from Thirumala using a 16 MVA 110/33 transformer and allied equipment and 33 KV underground cables laid at a distance of 4.55 kilometres.
Three 11 KV feeders at Jagathy, Kalady and Thaliyal will be used to distribute electricity from the new station. The total cost of establishing the facility is Rs 3.91 crore.
