Maldivian Airlines, owned by Island Aviation Services Ltd of Maldives, has expanded its frequency to Thiruvananthapuram, with the introduction of Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet.
The airline, which received its first A320 recently, will fly between Male and Thiruvananthapuram on all days, which would help the medical, tourism and trade sectors a great deal, its chairman Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem told reporters here.
He said that with the induction of A320, more passengers could travel to Thiruvananthapuram, which is highly regarded as the medical city by Maldivians. He said that the airline has increased the frequency of the flights to 14 per week to Thiruvananthapuram following heavy demand.
Stating that the airline catered to the needs of medical passengers from Male and holiday makers and honeymoon couples from India, Saleem said the seating capacity of the A320 was 152, with 14 business class, 24 premium economy and 114 economy class seats.
Moreover, he said the airline has expanded its network by connecting Chennai, Mumbai and Dhaka with Male, the capital city of the island nation. Saleem said that operations have been started between Male-Chennai, Chennai/Dhaka- Male and Male-Mumbai, apart from Thiruvananthapuram.
He also noted that Maldivian will receive its second Airbus A320 by March or April next year, which will be used to operate flights to Delhi.
The airline already has three Dash 8-300 series aircraft (50 seaters) and two Dash 8-200 series aircraft (37 seaters). The airline will fly every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on Male-Chennai-Dhaka-Chennai-Male sector and every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday between Mumbai and Male.
