The Crime Detachment wing of the police has extended their search for criminal ‘Ripper’ Jayanandan to Thrissur, as he remains at large even two months after he escaped from Poojappura Central Jail.

As of now, the investigating officers are sure that ‘Ripper’ has not fled the state as the police had received information that he was staying somewhere in Mala, Thrissur.

The shadow police have started their search operations in Mala, but has not yet identified his hideout. They have also conducted raids on buildings near the lakes and islands in Mala. Police officials said that he might be hiding in one of the isolated islands in Mala.

Jayanandan, 45, accused of murdering seven women, escaped with his cell-mate Ooppa Prakash, who was undergoing imprisonment for several theft cases, on July 9.

However Ooppa Prakash was later arrested from Kapil near Oachira.

According to the police, this was Ripper’s second escape from prison. In 2010, he had escaped from Kannur Central Jail. But he was later caught from Tamil Nadu, where he was staying with his wife.

The mode of escape was similar in both the cases. Like in the previous time, this time too the accused escaped after leaving behind a dummy in the cell.
