The SFI will take out a mass march of students from various states on the Parliament Street on September 10 in protest against the Union Government’s neglect towards the education sector.

“From 1991 onwards, the budget allocation for education had been showing a gradual decline except during the UPA Government’s second tenure,” said SFI national president V Sivadasan. “We demand a six per cent allocation of the total GDP for the education sector,” he said.

Sivadasan said the Centre was inviting foreign monopolies to the education sector thereby hampering the chances of youth to have affordable education. “The UGC and CSIR are being hijacked to pave way for multi-nationals. Another alarming trend is the diversion of MLA and MP funds to private educational institutions,” he said.

SFI would conduct nationwide campaigns for the democratic rights of students. “The Lyngdoh Committee recommendations on students’ union elections are often found preventing fair elections,” he said.

SFI state secretary T P Bineesh said the ABVP and RSS activists were attacking the SFI activists in state. “The violent attacks at MG College and Dhanuvachapuram ITI left many activists seriously injured,” he said.

“The organisation would convene gatherings to condemn the attacks on all campuses in the state on September 3,” he said.
