Mind-blowing goodies in customised hampers; delectable chocolates hidden in dazzling bouquets; multihued return gifts in cartoon themes; home-made cupcakes and cookies in bedecked baskets; vibrant confetti-filled trousseau packets, Sapna Koshy’s home in Coimbatore, which houses her business ‘The Golden Wrap’, encompasses anything and everything for an ardent gift-lover.

Hailing from the city, Sapna has had a long creative voyage to recollect. Artistically inclined from a very young age, Sapna could not explore her creative bend during her professional years spent in an IT company.

After quitting her job to take care of her baby, Sapna realised that sitting idle at home is not her cup of tea. When her husband decided to transfer his business to Coimbatore, she took her penchant for creativity with her.

“By the time we shifted to Coimbatore in 2012, I had made up my mind to start a business of my own. First my idea was to do the now-cliched baking business. However after a survey done around Coimbatore, I realised that every other housewife did just that, so I  came up with the idea of wrapping,” says Sapna.

Sapna, who had received praises for her hand wraps in bling and self-made designs, from her family members, started bringing together personalised gift baskets for those who fancied it. With a cake baking, candy-making past to her credit, putting together assortments like candies and cookies never posed an issue.

Coimbatore provided an easy platform to her endeavour and within a year of her establishment, she earned a name within the elite class. “Though my customers are mostly from the elite class, I do put together gifts according to the budget. If a person has only Rs 100 to spare I can give him something according to his taste and budget. It is a misconception that only the rich can afford a good lifestyle,” says Sapna.

From designing gift wraps to making delicious chocolates, Sapna has her hands full with wedding parties and festival decorations. After she started putting together trousseau and tray decorations, Sapna has become a sought-after name in the matrimony business.

Sapna’s creativity is not restricted within the four walls in Coimbatore, instead, from catering gifts for a church festival in Nedumangad to conferring to the needs of customers from across the globe, it is travelling worldwide.

“Though I am not planning to start a store anywhere, I am going to conduct my first exhibition coming August. I will put up a stall during Kovai shopping fest, which is a rage in Coimbatore,” says Sapna.

Even in crisis situations and tight deadlines Sapna has single-handedly shouldered ‘The Golden Wrap’. With unfailing support from her husband Reuben, Sapna says she never felt the need to hire anybody to help her out.

“There have been times I have panicked with big orders, but Reuben lends a helping hand during such situations. But anyway, right now I am very happy with the way my business is going. It is always a pleasure to hear praises for your hard work,” says Sapna.

Sapna recently catered to a corporate event where she had to make about a hundred chocolate bouquets for their clientele. She has delivered chocolates and cookies to as far as Muscat with no damage to recall.

“Orders placed for one’s loved ones will be delivered to the designated place either by hand or by courier. I have sent gifts via flight as well, all depending on the expense. If the client is willing to spend high amounts to send it through flight, we will do just that,” says Sapna.

Sapna, who does much business via Facebook, agrees that in today’s era, social networking sure plays a crucial role in establishing an endeavour.

As doctors to software engineers line up for her home-made chocolates and gift hampers, Sapna is all smiles. “Creativity has no bounds and this is what I have always dreamt off,” Sapna signs off.
