Varma murder case: Trial proceedings begins

The trial proceedings in the case pertaining to the murder of Harihara Varma, a diamond merchant, began at the Fast Track Court here on Tuesday.   Varma, 59, who was speculated to be a member of the Mavelikara royal family, was smothered to death on December 24, 2012, at his friend advocate Haridas’s daughter’s house at Puthoorkonam.

 Police had arrested the five accused in the case Jithesh, Ajeesh, Rakhil, Ragesh and Joseph. Ajeesh and Jithesh were working as recruitment agents of new admissions to professional institutions in Bangalore and the other accused were students in Bangalore.

 Police had filed the chargesheet within 90 days of their investigation.  In the case there are 96 witnesses. The prosecution  has submitted 144 records with respect to the case.

Public Prosecutor V Sajan Prasad is appearing for the prosecution. The case will come up for hearing on June 17.
