Police have taken into custody nine persons, including two women, in connection with the alleged sexual exploitation of a 24-year-old woman from Kasaragod.
Since the arrests were not formally recorded while going to press, the names of the accused were not available.
The victim arrived in the city two months ago from Kasaragod in search of a job. An autorickshaw driver befriended her at the railway station and after realising that she had no friends or relatives in the city, took her to his house and allegedly raped her, the Medical College police said.
The driver then allegedly presented the girl to one of his friends. The duo then took her to a woman, known as ‘Aunty’ who presented her to more people. The victim was forced to obey the accused who threatened her, the police said, adding that a few college students are also among the seven men arrested. The case came to light when the victim approached a private hospital complaining of stomach ache. The hospital authorities noticed some anomalies in the address she furnished and alerted the police. The accused were taken into custody as per the information provided by the victim.
