Health Minister V S Sivakumar said that steps would be taken to set up more panchakarma institutes in the government sector in the state.
Inaugurating the state-level distribution of preventive medicines of the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine here on Wednesday, he said that the land for setting up these institutes would be identified at the earliest.
As part of the drive to prevent the spread of viral fever, 1 lakh medicinal kits produced by Oushadhi will be distributed in the coming days, he said.
Sivakumar said that a separate cell had been formed for tackling viral fever in the state. About 400 new posts have been created to check the spread of diseases.
He said that it was necessary to popularise Ayurveda to spread the traditional system of medicine.
A scheme launched by the government called Oushadha Sasya Thottam (medicinal herb garden) would help Ayurveda regain its popularity.
Director of Indian System of Medicine Department Anitha Jacob, Oushadhi chairman Johny Nellore, Ayurveda Medical Education director T Shivadas, District Medical Officer K Sundaran and Government Ayurveda College principal P K Ashok were present among others.
