Malayalam computing: Free training given

The free Malayalam computing training organised by IT @ School project in the district as part of the classical language observance day in the district concluded at the District Resource Centre of IT @ School at Jagathy.

IT @ School director Babu Sebastian inaugurated the training, at a function which was presided over by district co-ordinator K K Sajeev. In the inaugural address, Babu said that the digital divide with language computing has to be eliminated and IT @ School aims to achieve it by providing the training.

Sessions were held on the subjects ‘Open source computing in Malayalam’, ‘Possibilities of Malayalam computing’ and ‘Malayalam wikipedia.’ Classes were led by master trainer co-ordinator R Sahani and master trainer R S Harikirshnan. Practical training was provided in the unicode-based inscript keyboard.

Fifty participants, who included Central government employees, policemen, journalists, students and teachers, participated in the training. Along with training, DVDs of open source operating systems were also distributed. Participants were selected through online registration.
