Fast Track - II judge P Madhavan on Monday read out the charge sheet to the five accused in the controversial Satnam Singh murder case.
The five were charged for murder, unlawful confinement, causing grievous hurt and trespassing. The judge has scheduled the next sitting of the case on November 21, when the date of commencement of trial will be decided.
The investigation team had submitted the charge sheet several months ago.
The case pertains to the alleged torture and consequent death of Satnam Singh, 23, in the Government Mental Health Care Centre, Peroorkada, on August 4, 2012.
Satnam Singh was arrested from Mata Amritanandamayi Math at Vallikkavu in Kollam on August 1 for allegedly trying to harm her.
He was shifted to the Mental Health Care Centre here after the police suspected that his mental condition was not stable.
However, a day later after he was admitted to the Mental Health Centre, he was found unconscious inside his cell, with bruises and injuries on his body. Though, he was rushed to the hospital, he later succumbed to the injuries.
As many as six persons - Mental Health Care Centre attender Anil Kumar, Jail Warden Vivekanandan, who was on hospital duty at the Mental Health Care Centre and four inmates of the hospital, Manjesh, Biju, Sarath Kumar alias Pratheesh and Dileep are the accused. Among them, fourth accused Biju later committed suicide.
