‘Sampoorna’, an ambitious project by the Education Department to form a complete database of students, is stuck halfway through, with its website remaining inaccessible for more than a month.

School authorities and teachers are confused as the officials are yet to make any communication in this regard.

The data entering process is also halted with the online system remaining

inaccessible to school authorities.

“It has been noticed that the site is not functioning for some time. Demand for a written explanation has been made to those in-charge. It has been found that the system is not in sync with the server, and as a result, schools are unable to retrieve data. No data has been lost so far.

“Once the technical problems are solved, it will be accessible to all school authorities as earlier,” executive director (in-charge) of IT@School Babu Sebastian said.

Project Sampoorna (www.sampoorna.itschool.gov.in), an online school management system developed under the aegis of Kerala State IT@School in 2011, was aimed at providing easy access to the details of students and staff in over 15,000 schools in the state.

The website was supposed to provide schools the access to the entire details of around 60 lakh students from classes I to XII. The free software ‘Sampoorna’, was also installed in schools as part of the project.

The major objective of the project was to facilitate school authorities and staff to easily implement and monitor all the activities of their students and the school itself.

It was launched with the vision to function as a mechanism to track a student’s progress right from class I.

The Education Department had also issued a circular directing that the details available in ‘Sampoorna’ will be the source for preparing SSLC certificates.

It would be used for Plus-I admissions and was also integrated with the Unique Identity Number (UID) scheme.

The software also made it easier to carry out cumbersome processes such as preparation of Transfer Certificate, copying of admission register, preparation of SSLC examination database, progress report preparation, promotion list preparation, entry forms for sports and games and youth festivals.

A timetable-preparation software had also been integrated to it.
