The 86th samadhi of Sree Narayana Guru was observed on Saturday across the district. The main function was held at Varkala Sivagiri Matt in which Finance Minister K M Mani was the chief guest.

The 86th samadhi of Sree Narayana Guru was observed on Saturday across the district. The main function was held at Varkala Sivagiri Matt in which Finance Minister K M Mani was the chief guest.

Sree Narayana Guru’s samadhi day at Sivagiri began with special prayers and poojas, followed by reading of Sree Narayana Guru’s works.

Addressing the function, Mani said that the vision of Sree Narayana Guru for a classless society should be transformed into a social law and lifestyle if the concept of a secular society enshrined in the Constitution has to become a reality.

“Secularism is the hallmark of the Indian Constitution. It should not remain just on paper,” the Finance Minister observed, while inaugurating the Mahasamadhi meet and fast organised at Varkala.

“The Minister also pointed out that along with protecting the noble interests of a community, there should be concerted efforts to foster communal harmony in the society.

Sivagiri Dharma Sangham Trust president Swami Prakasananda presided over the meet.

MLAs Abdu Samad Samadani and Varkala Kahar, Trust treasurer Swami Paramananda also spoke at the function. 

The day was also observed with piety and prayer with SNDP unions across the district conducting a host of programmes to mark the occasion.

In every SNDP centres the devotees were served gruel.
