Kerala Gandhi Smarak Nidhi launching 121-day programme

The Kerala Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, which is celebrating its diamond jubilee celebrations, will organise a 121-day programme from Gandhi Jayanthi Day for promoting the teachings of Gandhiji and also for a violence-less India.

The Kerala Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, which is celebrating its diamond jubilee celebrations, will organise a 121-day programme from Gandhi Jayanthi Day for promoting the teachings of Gandhiji and also for a violence-less India.

 The diamond jubilee celebrations from October 2 (Gandhi Jayanthi Day) to January 30, 2014 (Martyrs’ Day) are being held in association with Cultural Affairs Department, Youth Welfare Department and NIMS Medicity. Minister for Culture K C Joseph will inaugurate the 121-day programme.

 Seminars, discussions, lectures on current issues confronting the society such as alchoholism, drug abuse, violence on women, environment, health, hygiene and a host of other issues are the salient features of the celebrations.  The focus will be on the youth, Kerala Gandhi Smarak Nidhi working chairman N Radhakrishnan and secretary K G Jagadeeshan said.

 As part of the Gandhi Kalotsavam, competitions in drawing, elocution, quiz, poetry reading and writing, story writing, patriotic songs and essay writing will be held for the students. A book festival will also be held at the Gandhi Bhavan.

 Gandhi short films competition will be held for students and youth with an aim to promote Gandhian values and thoughts.  It is for the first time that students and youth are involved in making short films on Gandhiji, they said.

 Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, in collaboration with the NIMS Medicity will also launch a mobile clinic, aimed at extending medical care to rural areas.
