A fresh row erupted over the state film awards on Monday after reports appeared that the award for the best playback singer was given to the ‘wrong person’.
It was Karthik who was adjudged the best playback singer in the state film awards, which were announced on Saturday, for his song ‘Janmaantharangalil Nee Enmanthraveenayil’ of the film Orissa.
The reports said that the song was actually sung by Pradeep Chandrakumar. Music director Ratheesh Vegha, who composed the song, said that the jury was informed that it was Pradeep Chandrakumar who sang it in the movie.
“The voice in the audio CD of ‘Orissa’ is that of Karthik. But after the CD release, it was decided to use the track singer’s voice in the film as director M Padmakumar found it more suitable. In the list submitted for the state film awards it was clearly mentioned that it was sung by Pradeep Chandrakumar. I have no idea how the jury come to such a conclusion. We came to know about it only when the awards were declared,” said Ratheesh Vegha.
But a jury member said that Karthik was adjudged for the award as it was his name that was included in the list submitted to them.
“The list is still with me in which it was clearly stated that the song was sung by Karthik. It was a mistake from the part of the producer. When listening to a song we cannot identify the voice of young singers as we are not that much familiar with them. There is no need for any controversy as the issue could be solved through a letter from the producer to the State Chalachithra Academy with proof stating that it was Pradeep Chandrakumar who actually sang the song,” jury member Harikumar told Express.
