THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A theatre release of an anthology of short films is a rare feast for film buffs.

Be ready for the film extravaganza as such an endeavour, perhaps for the first time, by ten young directors, is set to hit a city theatre on Sunday. Named ‘Revolutionary Directors Xperiments’ (RDX) the short film compilation - an anthology of nine films - is the outcome of the effort of ten directors.

The directors, all hailing from the district, are from various walks of the life and their age is between 21 to 30.

There is a techie, an assistant of director of Blessy, an engineering student, an assistant of cinematographer Santhosh Sivan, one who learnt filmmaking from Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap, to give a brief introduction of the filmmakers in the group.

“It was not that we all knew each other. But some of us knew some other among the ten. The mutual friends shared the idea among the group which, finally, materialised well,” says Ajaz Basheer, one of the directors.

The scripts were penned by the directors themselves and the aim was to learn each and every aspect of filmmaking. “It is not common that short films are released in theatres, especially when it is an anthology. But we chose this way to learn the entire effort behind filmmaking and the struggle to make films reach theatres,” says Ajaz, a software engineer with a Technopark firm.

T’Puram: A theatre release of an anthology of short films is a rare feast for film buffs. Chandini Devi, a producer with Doordarshan, is the lone woman presence of the team and her short film ‘Coin’ comes first in the  ‘Revolutionary Directors Xperiments’ (RDX) compilation.

The other films are ‘Mutual Friend’ directed by Ajaz Basheer, ‘Lipstick’ by Khais Millen, ‘Audition’ by Eby Daniels and ‘Black Heart’ by Sameer Sakkariya. There is also ‘Momma’ conceived by Anush Mohan, ‘Kooja’ by R K Ratheesh, ‘An Admirer’s Gift’ by Nikhil Sundaram and ‘APP MSG’ by duo Prayag and Rakesh.

‘APP MSG’, aptly justifying its name, is shot fully on mobile. There is also the effort of ten cinematographers, six editors and nine music directors for ‘RDX.’ The anthology of short films will be exhibited at Sree theatre on Sunday at 8 am.
