THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Kerala chapter is celebrating 50 years of modern architecture in Kerala.

Students of architecture in the city will design works of art for the facades of selected buildings for the ‘Art in the City’ project planned as part of the celebrations. Noted artist and director of programmes of Kochi Biennale Riyas Komu is the project consultant.

‘Muttathe Mullaykku Manamund’, a presentation workshop by Riyas Komu, will mark the beginning of the ‘Art in the City’. District Collector Biju Prabhakar will inaugurate the workshop at College of Engineering Trivandrum on Saturday at 11 am.

The celebration is an extension of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Department of Architecture CET, where formal architectural education began in Kerala. A year-long celebration is planned by the IIA and is proposed to extend the same across Kerala.
