Seven Films to Premiere at the Fest
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 19th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will become the platform for the world premiere of seven Indian movies. Out of that five are Malayalam films and the rest are from Bengali and Hindi. ‘Myth of Kleopatra’, ‘89’,’Alif’, ‘Calton Towers’, ‘Oralpokkam’ (Six Feet High), ‘Jalamsam’ and ‘Vidooshakan’ (The Enlightened) are the movies to be screened in front of the public for the very first time.
‘Vidooshakan’ (The Enlightened) directed by Santhosh T K will be screened in the Malayalam Cinema Today section. The movie narrates the life of renowned Malayalam writer Manikoth Ramunni Nair aka Sanjayan. Noted filmmaker V K Prakash plays the lead role in the film. The movie has an ensemble cast that includes P Balachandran, Kallinga Sasi, Indrans, Mukundan, Sreelatha and a set of theatre artists.
‘Jalamsam’ directed by award winning filmmaker M P Sukumaran Nair will be showcased in the Malayalam Cinema Today section. The movie discusses about the life of an agrarian society which is under the threat of the real estate mafia. The story is told through the central character named Kunjunni portrayed by Jagadeesh.
‘Myth of Kleopatra’, the bilingual movie made in Hindi and English, was conceived by M Adeyapartha Rajan. The movie will be screened in the Indian Cinema Now section. The crime thriller narrates the life of three women who shares the name ‘Kleopatra’.
Sanalkumar Sasidharan’s directorial debut ‘Oralpokkam’ will be showcased in the Malayalam Cinema Today section. The movie narrates the life of Maya and Mahi, who bid adeiu to their five year long live-in relationship. While noted producer-actor Prakash Bare plays Mahi, writer Meena Kandaswamy makes her acting debut with the role of Maya. The movie was produced by Kazhcha Chalachithra Vedi with crowd funding.
Manoj Michigan directed ‘89’ is a thriller movie which goes through three characters - a serial killer, a cop and a psychiatrist. The movie, made in Bengali language, which has a nonlinear narrative style, will be premiered in the Indian Cinema Now section of the fete. The movie has an ensemble cast that includes Raima Sen, Saswta Chatterjee and Shataf Figar. ‘Calton Towers’ directed by Salil Lal Ahamed narrates the story of a man who has lost his son in the fire accident occurred at Calton Towers. The man gets stuck on certain questions about the mysterious life and death of his son. The rest of the story is about how he solves those doubts. It will be screened in Malayalam Cinema Today section. Noted Malayalam actor Sivaji Guruvayoor portrays the central character.
N K Muhammed Koya directed ‘Alif’ will be showcased in Malayalam Cinema Today section. The movie narrates the story of 35-year-old woman, who is the mother of two children. It focuses on the issues society forces on her. Lena, Zeenath, Nilambur Ayisha, Irshad, Nedumudi Venu, Joy Mathew and Kalabhavan Mani are in the cast list of the movie.
