THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Renowned Tamil poet Selma will inaugurate the national workshop on ‘Women in Media’ on Saturday 9.15 am at Vyloppilli Sanskrithi Bhavan.
The two-day seminar is jointly organised by Kerala Press Academy and Network of Women in Media. Prominent journalists and activists will be participating in the talks and discussions to be held as part of the workshop on Saturday and Sunday. N S Anil Kumar, secretary, Kerala Press Academy, N P Rajendran, chairman, Kerala Press Academy, K C Rajagopal, vice-chairman, Kerala Press Academy, S Biju, K A Beena, J S Indukumar and Meera Ashok will speak in the inaugural session.
It will be followed by a discussion on ‘Gender Question in Media’ in which Geetha Nazeer, R Parvathidevi, Saritha Varma, C Gouridasan Nair, M G Radhakrishnan, N Susmitha, Vineetha Gopi and Shani Prabhakar will participate.
In the post-noon session there will be a discussion on ‘Being bold and courageous - does it matter more for women journalists?’. Venkitesh Ramakrishnan, M Suchittra, K K Shahina, V M Deepa, Sindhu Suryakumar, Sreedevi Pillai and M S Sreekala will talk in the session. It will be followed by an interactive session on ‘Life and Profession’ in which C S Sujatha, Bhagaylakshmi, Hemalatha, Sajitha Shankar and Sreebala Menon will participate.
In the morning session on July 13, Bina Paul, K A Beena, A Sahadevan, N K Raveendran, Veena George, Krishna Kumari and Vidhu Vincent will talk on the topic ‘Women in Media - Image and Reality’. At 2 pm famous media person Kalpana Sharma will release ‘Anubhava Sancharangal’ published by Kerala Press Academy compiling the experiences of award winning women journalists.
The media award instituted by Network of Women in Media will be handed over to Sanghaditha magazine at the function.
