THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 27th Mindful Life Management Workshop organised by the Holistic and Stress Research Clinic of the Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, will be conducted on June 15. This month’s workshop specifically concentrates on yoga teachers. The programme attempts to increase the awareness of the yoga teachers to the concept of mindfulness.

Dr S Krishnan, associate professor, Psychiatry Department, Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, said ‘Mindful life management’ is an experiential educational stress management programme which includes Mindfulness Meditation, Mindful Yoga, Mindful Breathing and other brief Stress Management techniques. “The sessions are mostly experiential. However, it will include lectures, PowerPoint presentations and practice sessions,’’ he said.

Benefits of mindfulness-based techniques include enhanced self-awareness, greater ability to relax the body and release physical tension, improved attention and concentration, ability to deal with stressful situations more effectively, greater ability to empathise and greater ability to cope with one’s emotions, among many others.

He said the programme would be suitable for anyone who has to deal with the highly stressful day-to-day activities.

A registration-cum-workshop fee of Rs 1,000 will be charged from the participants.
