THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : ‘Addicted to Life’, the official Facebook page of anti-drug campaign, has gone viral on the internet, with 2.50 lakh likes and a reach of 2.75 crore.

The Facebook page ‘www.facebook.com/getaddictedtolife’, launched by the Excise Department and the Kerala State Beverages Corporation aims at creating awareness on the evils of drug addiction with ‘like’ to life. Within seven days of the launch of the page, by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on August 6, it had 1 lakh likes, which showed the acceptance from the public. It has been pointed out that it was for the first time that a government campaign for a social cause had received so many likes in the initial days itself.

As per the statistics provided by Facebook, the page has been viewed by nearly 85 lakh users in the state. The page is also a huge hit with NRKs.  As part of the initiative, short films, creative posters and videos will be linked to the page.   On the success of the ‘Addicted to Life’, Excise Minister K Babu said that it was a good sign that the page has become so popular within a short time.  He also noted that the Beverages Corporation had envisaged many anti-drug programmes in the state.

Noting that 70 percent of social media users in the state were in the 13 -34 age group, the Minister also said that the campaign intended to create awareness among members of this group.

Actor Mammootty is the brand ambassador of the campaign.
