A Green Initiative for the Bookies

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the book buffs, you can now carry the reading experience with a touch of green and a tinge of kindness. Two young research scholars from the University of Kerala, Vinod Kumar and Jeeja, along with a budding writer Vinu Anamangad, have launched a new publishing house ‘Green Pepper Publica’, that is unique with many features.

The eloquence in their style, along with a social commitment make the publishing house a tad different from other similar endeavours.

For the trio who were lured by the power of words, the conceptualisation of their idea is a dream-come-true moment. They confronted several hurdles on the way. “We live in a period in which there is a little connect between people and society. In this context, we think that literary works can serve the role of an eye-opener,” says Vinod Kumar. The research scholar further says that Vinu Anamangad is the main pillar of strength behind the venture.

The books that the trio publish touches every facet of human life, regaining the joyful experience of reading. The collection includes novels, anthology of poems, memoirs and political writings.

A love for literature, and experiences shaped through words inspired the youngsters to take up the opportunity. They claim that quality and credibility make ‘Green Pepper Publica’ different. The books are economically feasible too. The difference lies in the structure of designing with minimal errors, they say.

‘Ennu Ente Peru Palestine Ennu Akunnu’ is the most popular book, which is the collection of tweets from young Farrah becker, the ‘Anne Frank of Gaza’. ‘Green Pepper Publica’ releases this book in solidarity to the thousands of victims at Gaza. The money collected through the sale of the book will be donated to the fund for the reconstruction of the war-torn land. The team also plans a ‘Farrah Book Challenge”. “Of late, we have been hearing a lot about the ice bucket challenge and other such challenges based on films, books through social media. But this challenge differs from the others as it aims at the reconstruction of the ravaged land of Gaza. One who buys the book ‘Ennu Ente Peru Palestine Ennu Akunnu’ is in solidarity with Gaza and handovers it to another person and thus a chain will be created.” The young bookies, through their book challenge, intend to create a  platform where the pain of world is equally shared.

Their book, ‘Haiku Kavithakal’ by Ashitha, was launched recently by Adoor Gopalakrishnan at Trivandrum Press Club. The upcoming books to see light are ‘Chithariya Ormakal’ by P Sreekumar, ‘Panthrandu Nilayullaa Oru Maram’(an anthology of poems) by Santhosh Pallashena, ‘Lohithadas’, a book on the life of the film maker to be edited by his wife Bindu Lohithadas and ‘Othupalli’.
