THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala would not have lost Kanyakumari to Tamil Nadu had Hindus stood together, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan said on Sunday. The region was lost to Kerala because the states were formed on the basis of language, he said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Ganesholsavam organised at the Shanghumugham beach in connection with the Hindu Maha Sammelan. Development would be possible if everyone, including minorities stood united, he said.

Pon Radhakrishnan also expressed surprise that O Rajagopal had not won in the latest Lok Sabha election in Thiruvananthapuram. Rajagopal, he said, was a simple and graceful personality.

Pon Radhakrishnan also promised all central assistance to Kerala in matters of development.

The Ganesholsavam procession, attended by thousands of people, started off from Chakkai and ended at the Shanghumugham beach where the Ganesha idols were immersed in the sea.
