THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Onam market is all set to welcome the swarm of  customers doing their festive shopping. Though the rain played spoilsport for a few days it hasn’t dampened the spirit of the shopkeepers or the customers.

The customers slowly but steadily have stormed the markets that are luring them with the most tempting offers. After the initial hiccup caused by the rains the customers without wasting anymore time have thronged to the markets especially the vegetable stalls lest the stalls run out of goods.

“The rains have had a negative effect on the Onam markets in general. Owing to the rains and floods the availability of certain vegetables such as cucumber and snake gourd has decreased and as a result the prices have gone up. Even the price of banana is on the 70/kg mark in the Onam market now. Though the customers stayed away from the markets due to the rains, the last two days have seen the usual Onam surge in crowds,” says Rajesh, deputy marketing manager, VFPC.

Come rain or sun or the soaring prices that touch the roof Malayali will never gives up on his Onam shopping at any cost. The coming days the city will witness a mad rush with shoppers making a beeline for the stalls.
