Biography of Adoor Bhasi Released

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A biography on late veteran actor Adoor Bhasi titled ‘Adoor Bhasi’, authored by B Harikumar, was released here on Sunday.

Actor Madhu released the book by handing over a copy to journalist Rajeev Gopalakrishnan here on Sunday. The function was inaugurated by KPCC president V M Sudheeran.

In his inaugural address, Sudheeran said as an actor, Adoor Bhasi had lived the characters while enacting them.

“This book will help present the actor to society in a deserving manner. The personal relationship the author had kept with the actor has helped to enrich the contents of the book,” Sudheeran said.

After releasing the book, Madhu recalled his days with Adoor Bhasi and how the latter had played a significant role in helping him secure the chance of doing the role of evergreen character Pareekutty in the film ‘Chemeen’, as Madhu was introduced to Ramu Kariat, director of ‘Chemeen’, by Adoor Bhasi.

“In those days the presence of Bhasi itself enlivened various occasions as he was adept in making everyone smile.

“He cracked jokes about himself which others thought had actually occurred. But there are also lesser-known facts about him, that he studied Textile Technology, contested in local body elections in Thiruvananthapuram and was an active participant in all theatre groups,” Madhu said.

The function was presided over by film critic Vijayakrishnan. Chandraprakash, editor of the State Institute of Languages, introduced the book. Film critic M F Thomas, Kalanidhi Centre for Arts, Culture and Research general secretary Geetha Rajendran, R S Pradeep, secretary of Adoor Bhasi Cultural Forum, and Y Lukose were present on the occasion.

The book has been published by the State Institute of Languages.
