Makeover for DTPC Building

KOLLAM: A group of artists have given a new lease of life to a DTPC building near Asramam here. They have turned the deserted structure  that once hosted cultural activities into a gallery that is brimming with activities.

It’s about two years since the building was shut down owing to loss. Two months ago, the artists opened the gallery under the banner ‘8 Point Art Cafe’.

Various programmes like ghazal, recitals, film screening and painting exhibitions are being held every week and the spot is drawing crowd.

They kicked off a campaign to fight pollution that’s threatening the vast resources of our state even as the efforts of the government have met with little success. Eight artists have organised an exhibition, ‘Ashtakam’ with works depicting the sorry state of the eight tributaries of the Ashtamudikayal(eight tributaries)’.
