THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Parassala MLA A T George has said that a joint meeting of the officials of Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari district administrations would be convened in March to discuss the issues regarding cross-border goods transportation.

George said that traders transporting goods across the border were often harassed by the police. “The police stop the lorries and ask for bribe even if valid documents are produced. A joint meeting of the Collectors and officials of the police, Motor Vehicles Department and sales taxes can work out a plan to prevent this,” he told Express.

The MLA said that he would suggest a coordination committee to oversee hassle-free transportation.

“People, traders in particular, living in certain border areas of both states have to cross the border during their travel to reach a destination in their own state,” he said.

“A lasting solution to their woes is imperative to boost the trade sector,” George said.

He said the meeting was delayed as the Thiruvananthapuram district administration was preoccupied with works related to the National Games which concluded on Saturday.
