THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: MTIE Writers’ Forum, a gathering of Malayalam, Tamil, and Indian English authors based in the city, entered its fifth successful year when it held the 60th monthly meeting on February 22. In accordance with the usual practice, the proceedings began at 5pm on the fourth Sunday of the month at Tainadu Hall, Statue, which has been the regular venue since the inception of the Forum in March 2010.
The Forum, which is presided over by Tamil-Malayalam author Neela Padmanabhan, was formed to serve as a platform for authors in the city to interact and present their writings.
G N Panikkar, academician and poet, who initiated the thought process which led to the forming of MTIE, says that more than 400 stories and poems have so far been presented at the meetings. “The participants can present unpublished works of fiction and poetry. Anyone who has a new story or poem to present is welcome at the meetings,” he says.
MTIE stands for Malayalam, Tamil, and Indian English, the languages which the Forum promotes. Panikkar says that the meetings have inspired him to keep writing as the by-law asks specifically for unpublished works. He feels that for the seasoned writers as well as for the novices, an informed audience is immensely motivating.
