THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The red carpet spread in the Kanakakkunnu Palace hall to invite dignitaries on to the dais was already occupied by the ‘hosts’ this time forcing the guests to stay beside them as mere onlookers. The colourful sweet scenting flowers in bamboo vases invited Governor P Sathasivam, Health Minister V S Sivakumar and other guests to the stage. Inauguration of the Flower Show 2015 was done in a befitting manner sans formalities and it was all about flowers and flowers only.

The flower show, with a wide array of 15,000 varieties, is sure to spoil you for choice filling the void made by a hiatus of two years. One of the highlight is a series of orchids and Arthurian flowers flown from Holland, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.  Another noteworthy feature of the show is sure to be the bonsai series that can rewrite the knowledge of trees we had so far, where a 40-year-old Ficus Bangalenis, 32-year-old Ficus Religiosa, 22-year-old Ficus Jacknifolia and 14-year-old Tamarind tree that you can carry on our palms as you do with your garden plants.

The show on the palace grounds is open from 9 am to 1 pm with ticket rates priced at Rs 20 in the morning and from 3 pm to 9 pm for Rs 30 per head. Children can get ticket at Rs 10.

The show will come to a close on January 18.
