

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The Zeeros Cricket Club in the city will be conducting a summer coaching camp in cricket for youngsters in the under-17 age group which will be led by former Kerala state Ranji Trophy team captain Sony K Cheruvathur.
The 45-day summer coaching camp will take place in Konchiravila near Manacaud commencing on April 5 providing the youngsters with an ideal platform to hone their skills with the bat and ball during the summer holidays.
The Zeeros Cricket Club was founded in 1983 in the capital and has been ever present during the past few decades in the state’s cricket circuit. But what makes the camp really different will be the innovative training methods and the presence of instructors who have years of experience.
The camp will offer an indoor training facility which includes nets and lighting facility with real time match experience provided by BCCI-accredited professionals, the authorities said. They also believe that this will be one of the very first time in Kerala cricket that a private cricket club is experimenting camp under artificial lighting.
The camp will also feature special classes in umpiring and scoring also to be conducted by BCCI-approved officials. The coaching sessions will be handed by Sony K Cheruvathur who is one of the best all-rounders Kerala has ever produced playing 36 first class cricket matches and captaining Kerala during 14 occasions.
R S Saranya will assist Cheruvathur during the camp. Saranya is a prolific player herself in women’s cricket and is also a Level One BCCI coach. She currently represents the Karanata state women’s team in the national competitions.
Apart from the duo, some senior state cricketers will also be visiting the camp and will interact with the trainees and share their playing experience, according to officials, imparting an extensive array of playing and technical knowledge to the children.
