THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Confed-eration of Residents’ Associations (CONFRA) has urged the government to examine all brands of curry powders in the light of the food safety wing detecting adulteration in the Nirapara brand.

A meeting of CONFRA held here on Sunday demanded the government to impose a ban on all brands of curry powders if adulteration is found. The demand comes in the wake of Food Safety Commissioner T V Anupama slapping a ban on the manufacture, storage, sale and distribution of ‘Nirapara’ brand chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder.

Analyses of the spices powders had revealed the presence of added starch, according to the Food safety Commissioner. A meeting of CONFRA also demanded the government to look into the irregularities in the sale of rice in the state.

As part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, CONFRA will organise painting competitions in Thiruvananthapuram on October 2, in Kollam on October 11 and in Kozhikode on October 18. CONFRA president S Reghu presided over the meeting.
