THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is only a year since Paravur Bikes was formed by a group of passionate cyclists, but the group has already scaled several hill stations in South India and rode through several of the best cycling destinations in the state.

Led by K D Leju, an experienced cyclist who has completed 200lm, 300km, 400km and 600km brevets organised by Audax India, Paravur Bikes Club aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through cycling. Members of the group commute with their bicycles for about 20-40 km a day, and regularly organise weekend getaways of 140-200 km.

The club now has members from varied strata of society, but asserts that behind the handle bars, all are equal. Within a year of its founding, the club has managed to inspire a lot of people to take up cycling as a hobby.

More than 150 participants across several age groups turned up for the club’s 5km awareness ride in paravur and around Ernakulam town.

Besides regularly organising sunday rides, breakfast rides and fun rides, Paravur Bikers’ Club has organised rides to hill stations like Ooty, Munnar, Illikal Kallu and more, and cleaned the marottichal forest along with sanchari unit.  The group passes the message of the health benefits that come with cycling wherever it organises rides to, and stand by it as one of the best ways to keep stroke,  heart attack, diabetes, and obesity at bay.
