Bodhi Samskarika Vedi is set to offer a cinematic treat for the cinebuffs. The organisation is soon to come up with a Bodhi Film Festival 2016, which will be held at the Vellanad Block office hall on February 28.
The one-day-long fest will feature a list of five movies. The fest is set to open with the screening of ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’, the first Malayalam horror film. The movie is critically acclaimed for its camera work and music, besides being the only screenplay by celebrated literetaur Vaikkom Muhammad Basheer.
‘Rashomon’, a 1950 Japanese period drama film directed by Akira Kurosawa, is another film on the itinerary. ‘Rashomon’ which is a period thriller about four stories interwoven into one, is most noted for its unique cinematographic style which includes elements from the silent and modern art era.
Another film in the list is Charlie Chaplin’s silent-era masterpiece ‘The Kid’. The 1921 American silent comedy, written and directed by Chaplin and five-year-old Jackie Coogan in his most memorable role, was the first feature-length venture of the famous comedian. The film is famous for its evocation of Dickensian London and its seamless mix of slaptick comedy and sentiment. The film which is preserved in the United States National Film Registry is considered as one of the greatest films of the silent era.
The visual treat will come to an end with the French film ‘Reves de Poussiere’ or ‘Dreams of Dust’ from 2008. The 86-minute feature film by Laurent Salgues explores the trauma of a person who has to journey far from his hometown. A Nigerian peasant comes looking for work in Essakane. After a personal tragedy, a Nigerian farmer (Makena Diop) arrives in an African camp where workers risk their lives to mine for gold. The peasant hopes to forget his past during his time at Essakane, a dusty gold mine in Northeast Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa, far away from Nigeria.
