Gang War Fallout: Goon Hacked Near Nedumangad

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A notorious goon was allegedly hacked by a gang in broad daylight on the road at Valicode near Nedumangad here on Friday. The victim, identified as Vinod alias Pravu Vinod, 30, is a history-sheeter and was released from jail recently. The condition of Vinod, who is under treatment at the intensive care unit of a private hospital, is said to be serious. 

The Nedumangad police have registered a case and zeroed in on the culprits. According to the police, the incident occurred around 5.30 pm at Valicode when Vinod was surrounded by the rival rang.

“Prima facie, it was a fall-out of the prevailing gang war between the two groups. Vinod was travelling on a motorcycle and he was chased down by the three-member gang that came in a car. The gang came out of the vehicle and hacked Vinod on his head, arm and back.

The gang fled the scene immediately after the incident. We have identified the culprits and they will land in  police net soon. We can’t divulge more details”, said A S Thanseem, Nedumangad SI.  Vinod was taken to the Medical College Hospital first and later to SUT Hospital, Pattom.  Pravu Vinod had been held under the Kerala Antisocial Activities Prevention Act three times earlier. He is an accused in at least 15 criminal cases registered at the Nedumangad and Aruvikkara police stations.
