THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Communalists forces are trying to induct the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam into its Aryan-dominated fold, poet Ezhacherry Ramachandran has said.“The right wing Hindutva forces are taking a clever approach to hijack the organisation by using commoners and monks. Communalist forces are gaining domination in the country at an alarming pace,” he said while addressing a session on communalism at the International Congress on Kerala Studies here on Sunday.

Ramachandran said the Adwaita concepts propagated by Adi Shankara and Sree Narayana Guru were different. Guru used it to veer the people away from the clutches of Aryan domination. Now the state needs a mass movement to retain the ideals of the Guru, he said.Elaborating the threats posed by communalist and fascist forces, writer N S Madhavan called for a joint resistance to save the country. Poet Anitha Thampi said  the Hindutwa forces were trying to adopt Hindu symbols as their own to create polarisation in society. They will appropriate more historic leaders to widen their base and cover up contradictions in the ideology, she said.Organisations fighting communalists and fascists forces should have the courage to fail for a noble stand. Striving for continuous success is a corporate trait, she said.

Critic Sunil P Ilayidom said a deconstruction of the modern understanding of history was imperative to fight communalism. The current understanding was developed by colonialists and nationalists for fulfilling their motives, he said.He said the cultural sector has deteriorated owing to the over importance given to information than education and that public debates focused on entertainment. Mediaperson Shahina said the country witnessed double standard in the fights against communalism by members of majority and minority communities.
