THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former minister and CPI leader C Divakaran brought the issue of lack of facilities at District Hospital Nedumangad to the attention of the government on Wednesday. Responding to the same, health minister K K Shylaja has promised to urgently intervene to address the issue.
The minister said the government is considering the possibility of revising the staff pattern in the health department, thus finding a solution to shortage of staff. It was in 2013 that a decision was taken to upgrade the Taluk hospital here to a district hospital with 225 beds.
As per the decision, it would come up as a full fledged hospital with various departments including the ENT, dentistry, skin speciality and gynaecology. There are 22 posts of medicos including that of the Superintendent. The attempt is to upgrade the Nedumangad district hospital with enough facilities to make it into a super speciality hospital, the minister told the Assembly. She also mentioned about a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the same.
