THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Scientific evidences played a major role in cracking the sensational Jisha murder case as the case did not have any eye-witnesses or direct evidences. Even as the probe lasted over one and half months to zero-in the culprit, the meticulous scientific probe led by Manoj Abraham, Thiruvananthapuram Range IG by availing services of forensic laboratory and Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology in Thiruvananthapuram made a breakthrough. Abraham was leading the scientific probe which conducted at various laboratories.
Speaking to 'Express', Abraham said that the accused Amyur Ul Islam was under the scanner right from the inception of probe. " He was one among the suspects and he was under the surveillance of probe team since the investigation began. But the challenge was to confirm his involvement as he fled from the scene since the incident. Later, the matching of DNA was also proved a challenge, However, after the permutation and combinations, we found out the matching of saliva of the culprit. In the meantime, the probe team had to rule out the involvement of other suspects", he said.
The post-mortem report had revealed a bite mark six cm below the victim’s shoulder, and another bite mark 12 cm below the root of her neck. Hence the saliva samples of the accused later matched during the test confirmed his involvement. Jisha was brutally raped and murdered at her residence at Iringol near Perumbavoor on April 28.
