THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kanal-Vayala Award to be Distributed Kanal Samskarika Vedi, the city-based theatre group started by the Kerala University alumni students,in association with the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts is conducting the fifth Kanal-Vayala award ceremony at Senate Hall in the city on Saturday. This will be the fifth edition of the award instituted by the theatre organisation.
The highlight of the ceremony would be the staging of the play ‘Swarnasimhasanam’ written by late actor and theatre personality Narendra Prasad. The play would be followed by the award distribution ceremony.
This year’s Kanal-Vayala award, presented in memory of the late theatrist Vayala Vasudevan Pillai will be given to noted light designer Sreekanth. Cine artist Madhu will be the chief guest for the event and will give away the award.
While National Award winning Kanal members Anuj Ramachandran, Jiji Kalamandir and Tara N S will be honoured at the event, two of the late playwright’s books would also be released on the occasion. Bharat Bhavan secretary Pramod Payyannur will release the books ‘J M Synge,The Passionate Playwright’and ‘ The Fire The Yearly Rite The Agreement’to Dr Thomas Mathew, principal, Medical College, and director and critic Raja Warrier.
