The cruiser segment in India just got interesting with the launch of the XDiavel and XDiavel S

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ducati has just launched another cruiser motorcycle in India, the  latest iteration of the Diavel ‘power cruiser’ that was introduced in 2011. The XDiavel is powered by the Ducati Testastretta DVT 1,262cc engine, which churns out a maximum power of  156PS  at  9,500rpm. Peak torque of 129Nm is available from a lower 5,000rpm. This part is important because cruiser motorcycles are expected to draw a major chunk of the power and torque in the mid-range. The XDiavel is also the first Ducati to use a final belt drive, as opposed  to  the  usual chain drive. The belt drive is typical of any cruiser motorcycle as it ensures ‘silence, cleanliness, less maintenance and a fluid response when the throttle is twisted’.

Cup of love

Built on a classic Ducati trellis frame chassis, the XDiavel sports a low, muscular stance. The bike runs Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres. Equipment includes ride-by-wire, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Power Launch, EBD and ABS cornering systems from Bosch. The instrument panel is a TFT screen, which displays information in three modes—Track, Full and City, in response to the riding modes—Sport, Touring and Urban. The XDiavel S variant, priced at `18.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), gets additional features like a full LED lighting cluster, Bluetooth connectivity and an infotainment system, while its lesser variant the XDiavel comes for `15.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
