THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: People should not hesitate to complain if they are doubtful of the quality and quantity of the products purchased, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies P Thilothaman said on Wednesday.

He was speaking after inaugurating the World Consumer Rights Day organised by Legal Metrology at VJT Hall on Wednesday. “Ours is a consumer state and public has the right to complain about the products and services they avail of.

The common man has to bear the burden of the frequent rise in price of products coupled with malpractices in their quantity,” said the minister.

He said legal metrology had a major role in protecting the rights of the people at a time when online sales see a surge. The minister gave away commendation certificates to the best performing enforcement officials.

Retired employees of the department also received identity cards from the minister.  V S Sivakumar MLA presided over the function. Special secretary of Food and Civil Supplies Mini Antony, controller Muhammad Iqbal and former controller S A Aseem spoke at the function.
